Testimonials

At Operation Blessing, we’ve seen firsthand how generosity can transform lives. Every donation, volunteer hour, and act of kindness helps us provide food, medical care, disaster relief, and hope to families in need. But the true impact is best told through the voices of those we serve. These stories share the resilience, gratitude, and life-changing moments made possible by our supporters—real people whose lives have been touched and restored because someone cared enough to help.

A kind word from Thomas:

"I have been involved with Operation Blessing since 2016, volunteering when I can and donating frequently. I spent a summer volunteering before Tammy arrived at OB and after she arrived, and can say that the impact that she has made on Operation Blessings and the people that this establishment serves has been immeasurable. The amount of structure, organization, planning, fundraising and outreach that has happened since Tammy came to OB is truly amazing. She has made a huge difference and I truly believe that bringing more structure and organization to OB is what is going to make it flourish and give the establishment the ability to serve more in need on the seacoast. Great Organization. "

FROM NURSING TO VOLUNTEERING :

We know the expression “blessed to be a blessing,” but how often do we really meet someone who fits that expression? There are several at Operation Blessing, including a woman who had a career as a critical-care nurse for almost three decades. She then went through a couple of dark times regarding health crises with family members. But by God’s grace it was her volunteer work at OB that became a blessing

that helped her remain emotionally intact.

Her previous training, she says, was especially helpful in teaching her to identify needs, training her ability to listen. She became able to ask, in one way or another, “How can Operation Blessing come alongside you?” In one case, it was to help a daughter know that she’s loved. In another case, it was to help a man who needed to dress a certain way and finding just the right shoes for him. Another time it was being a blessing to the staff by – believe it or not! – playing the ukelele in the café at lunchtime. In her view, it has all taught her to become the blessing to clients that her background had prepared her to be. It’s what her faith has been preparing her to do. By coincidence – or perhaps Providence – she was interviewed for this article right under a framed quotation from the book of Joshua: “Do not be afraid of discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

She's had a long upward path out of trauma, but she hasn't had to walk it alone.

Thanks to the spiritual enablement she's received, and also gives, she has walked on what one OB staffer has called “a magnificent journey.” First was her bout with domestic violence so severe that her husband did six months in prison. Further traumas followed over a 20-year period, including a granddaughter who was groomed for years starting at age 13. Other tough experiences followed that involved her children, grandchildren and her 39 great grandchildren.

Then came a remarkable change -- the beginning of a connection with God that was truly personal, thanks to OB Executive Director Tammy Jocelyn. “Tammy introduced me to God in a more personal, conversational way.” She started praying and listening to God on the basis of His being right there with her. “You're guiding and guarding me,” she began praying every morning. Not only is she receiving everything now as a gift from him, she prays: “Help me to enhance the quality of life of the people around me. Put people in my path that I can help.” At one point she needed a new furnace and was distraught, because the company had said “no.” She prayed with another Operation Blessing person, and before she got home that day the decision was reversed -- an experience of providential care that she’ll never forget. She cries with appreciation when unfolding the details to others about the joy of her journey of growth, and she remains, she says, in “constant prayer.”
